...OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS INCLUDING A FEW STRONG TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH DAMAGING WINDS IS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL UNITED STATES AND THE LOWER AND MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT.

THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH A FEW STRONG TORNADOES AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL UNITED STATES/MISSISSIPPI VALLEY LATER TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE:
EASTERN NEBRASKA
EASTERN KANSAS
EASTERN OKLAHOMA
NORTHERN ARKANSAS
MOST OF MISSOURI
SOUTHERN IOWA
MUCH OF ILLINOIS

OTHER SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY OCCUR OVER MUCH OF TENNESSEE...KENTUCKY...INDIANA AND OHIO.

A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS NEBRASKA AND IOWA THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING WITH STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS EAST OF THE LOW PUSHING WARM MOIST UNSTABLE AIR INTO THE CENTRAL UNITED STATES. A COLD FRONT WILL MEANWHILE ADVANCE EASTWARD ACROSS THE MISSOURI AND MISSISSIPPI VALLEY REGIONS WITH THE COOLER DRIER AIR BEHIND THE FRONT COLLIDING WITH THE WARM HUMID AIR TO THE EAST. IN ADDITION...STRONG WINDS IN EXCESS OF 120 MILES AN HOUR WILL FLOW ACROSS THE AREA IN THE UPPER PORTIONS OF THE ATMOSPHERE. THE RESULT WILL BE AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH A FEW DAMAGING TORNADOES ALONG WITH SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS STRONG WIND AND LARGE HAIL EVENTS.

THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO AND TELEVISION AND NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.
