WWUS36 KMKC 261117 PWOMKC PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KANSAS CITY MO 600 AM CDT SUNDAY 26
MAY 1996
...SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AND
TONIGHT OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS...
THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN KANSAS CITY IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND A FEW TORNADOES OVER PARTS
OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS. THE STATES MOST LIKELY TO
EXPERIENCE THE BRUNT OF THE SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDE CENTRAL AND
EASTERN KANSAS...MUCH OF OKLAHOMA AND PARTS OF NORTH TEXAS.
A
LOW PRESSURE CENTER DEVELOPING OVER WEST TEXAS THIS MORNING WILL
INTENSIFY AND MOVE NORTHEAST ACROSS KANSAS TODAY...BEFORE REACHING
SOUTHERN NEBRASKA EARLY MONDAY.
AT THE SAME TIME...A STRONG
JET STREAM DISTURBANCE NOW OVER NEW MEXICO WILL SWEEP NORTHEAST
ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE PLAINS. THE COMBINATION OF THE
SOUTHERLY LOW-LEVEL WINDS AHEAD OF THE DEVELOPING LOW...ALONG WITH
INCREASING HIGH-LEVEL WESTERLY WINDS SUPPLIED BY THE JET
STREAM...WILL CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF TEXAS...OKLAHOMA AND KANSAS.
ALTHOUGH STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALREADY PRESENT OVER
PARTS OF THE PLAINS THIS MORNING...THIS ACTIVITY WILL LIKELY BECOME
MORE INTENSE AND WIDESPREAD LATER TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT AS THE
ATMOSPHERE BECOMES MORE CONDUCIVE FOR SEVERE STORM DEVELOPMENT.
LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS...AND A FEW TORNADOES ARE
POSSIBLE...BEGINNING THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUING THROUGH TONIGHT.
MORE ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON
AND TONIGHT OVER REMAINING PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN
PLAINS...AS WELL AS OVER PARTS OF THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY...THE
LOWER OHIO VALLEY AND THE CAROLINAS.
THIS IS A POTENTIALLY
DANGEROUS WEATHER SITUATION. PEOPLE ARE URGED TO KEEP AND EYE ON THE
SKY AND REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY RULES. PERSONS SHOULD ALSO
MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR LOCAL RADIO AND TELEVISION FOR THE
LATEST SEVERE WEATHER WATCHES... WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS FROM THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
