...SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK EXPECTED LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT OVER PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL PLAINS...

THE NATIONAL SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER IN KANSAS CITY IS FORECASTING AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND TORNADOES OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL UNITED STATES.

THE STATES MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THE BRUNT OF THE SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDE...

SOUTHERN NEBRASKA
MOST OF KANSAS
MOST OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
EXTREME WESTERN MISSOURI
AND A SMALL PART OF NORTHWESTERN ARKANSAS

THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND A FEW STRONG TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE.

AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM HAS DEVELOPED OVER EASTERN COLORADO THIS MORNING. THE LOW IS EXPECTED TO MOVE SLOWLY NORTHEASTWARD INTO NEBRASKA TONIGHT. STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS AHEAD OF THE STORM WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE WITH WARM MOIST UNSTABLE AIR FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO NOW STREAMING NORTHWARD INTO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS. MEANWHILE...A COLD FRONT WILL ADVANCE EASTWARD INTO NEBRASKA...KANSAS AND OKLAHOMA THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT WITH THE COOLER DRIER AIR BEHIND THE FRONT COLLIDING WITH THE WARM HUMID AIR MASS AHEAD OF IT. IN ADDITION...VERY STRONG WINDS IN THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A VERTICAL WIND PROFILE THAT WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AND TORNADO DEVELOPMENT OVER PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL PLAINS.

THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST TO FORM ALONG THE ADVANCING COLD FRONT OVER THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS LATER THIS AFTERNOON...WITH ADDITIONAL STORMS DEVELOPING SOUTHWARD INTO WESTERN OKLAHOMA. SEVERE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO SPREAD EASTWARD ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHERN NEBRASKA...KANSAS AND OKLAHOMA TONIGHT BEFORE MOVING INTO WESTERN MISSOURI AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS LATE TONIGHT.

MORE ISOLATED SEVERE STORMS ARE POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT OVER REMAINING PORTIONS OF OKLAHOMA...AND NEBRASKA AS WELL AS WESTERN IOWA...PARTS OF SOUTH DAKOTA...CENTRAL PORTIONS OF MISSOURI AND ARKANSAS AND NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST TEXAS.

AWAY FROM THE CENTRAL UNITED STATES...ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE ALONG PARTS OF THE GULF OF MEXICO COAST INTO NORTHERN AND CENTRAL FLORIDA INTO THE EVENING HOURS. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT AT THIS TIME FOR SOUTHERN LOUISIANA AND SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI.

ALL PERSONS IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE STORM SAFETY RULES AND LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR LOCAL RADIO AND TV FOR NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEVERE STORM WATCHES...WARNINGS AND STATEMENTS AS THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WEATHER SITUATION UNFOLDS.
