TONIGHT OVER PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL PLAINS...
THE NATIONAL SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER IN KANSAS CITY IS
FORECASTING AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH DAMAGING
WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND A FEW TORNADOES OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL
AND SOUTH CENTRAL UNITED STATES.
THE STATES MOST LIKELY TO
EXPERIENCE THE BRUNT OF THE SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDE...
MOST OF
CENTRAL AND EASTERN NEBRASKA CENTRAL AND EASTERN KANSAS MOST
OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN OKLAHOMA EXTREME WESTERN MISSOURI
NORTHWESTERN ARKANSAS
THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS
SITUATION WHERE DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND A FEW STRONG
TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE.
AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP OVER COLORADO THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE MOVING INTO
NEBRASKA OVERNIGHT. AS THE LOW STRENGTHENS...SOUTHERLY WINDS AHEAD
OF THE STORM WILL INCREASE WITH WARM MOIST UNSTABLE AIR FROM THE
GULF OF MEXICO STREAMING NORTHWARD INTO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN
HIGH PLAINS. MEANWHILE A COLD FRONT WILL ADVANCE EASTWARD INTO
NEBRASKA...KANSAS AND OKLAHOMA THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT WITH THE
COOLER DRIER AIR BEHIND THE FRONT COLLIDING WITH THE WARM HUMID AIR
MASS AHEAD OF IT. IN ADDITION...WINDS OF OVER 100 MILES AN HOUR IN
THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE WILL PROVIDE EVEN MORE ENERGY OVER THE REGION.
THIS SITUATION WILL RESULT IN AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
WITH THE GREATEST THREAT OF TORNADOES...DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE
HAIL OVER MOST OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN NEBRASKA...ALL OF CENTRAL AND
EASTERN KANSAS...MOST OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN OKLAHOMA...EXTREME
WESTERN MISSOURI AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS.
MORE ISOLATED SEVERE
STORMS ARE POSSIBLE TODAY AND/OR TONIGHT OVER REMAINING PORTIONS OF
OKLAHOMA...KANSAS AND NEBRASKA AS WELL AS WESTERN IOWA...MOST OF
SOUTH DAKOTA...CENTRAL PORTIONS OF MISSOURI AND ARKANSAS AND NORTH
CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST TEXAS.
