...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM OUTBREAK EXPECTED TODAY
OVER PORTIONS OF THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY...TENNESSEE VALLEY AND
LOWER OHIO VALLEY...
THE NATIONAL SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER IN KANSAS CITY
MISSOURI IS FORECASTING AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND
TORNADOES THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY TONIGHT ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE
LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY...TENNESSEE VALLEY AND LOWER OHIO VALLEY.
THE STATES WHICH ARE MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THE BRUNT OF THE
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY INCLUDE:
PARTS OF SOUTHERN AND
EASTERN ARKANSAS WESTERN KENTUCKY MIDDLE AND WESTERN
TENNESSEE NORTHERN ALABAMA NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI
NORTHERN LOUISIANA
AN INTENSE STORM IS MOVING RAPIDLY ACROSS
THE CENTRAL U.S. TODAY. IN ADVANCE OF THE STORM CENTER WHICH IS
MOVING NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS IOWA THIS MORNING...VERY MOIST AND
UNSTABLE AIR IS RAPIDLY MOVING UP THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY INTO THE
LOWER OHIO VALLEY. VERY STRONG WINDS AT ALL LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE
COMBINED WITH THE STRONG COLD FRONT SWEEPING EASTWARD THROUGH THE
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON WILL TRIGGER AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS AND TORNADOES AS THEY INTERACT WITH THE UNSTABLE
AIRMASS.
WHILE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALREADY UNDERWAY IN
NORTHERN ARKANSAS. ADDITIONAL SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL QUICKLY
DEVELOP FROM THE LOWER OHIO VALLEY SOUTHWESTWARD INTO THE WESTERN
TENNESSEE VALLEY AND INTO NORTHERN LOUISIANA BY EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON.
TORNADOES ARE LIKELY IN THIS AREA ALONG WITH
DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL. THE STORMS WILL BE MOVING AT LEAST 60
MPH AND SPREAD ACROSS THE WESTERN TENNESSEE VALLEY INTO NORTHERN
MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON.
ALL PERSONS
IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SAFETY RULES...AND TO
LISTEN TO RADIO..TV..OR NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND
POSSIBLE WATCHES OR WARNINGS. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS
WEATHER SITUATION FOR THE AFFECTED AREAS AND SHOULD BE MONITORED
CLOSELY.
