..SEVERE THUNDERSTORM OUTBREAK EXPECTED TODAY
OVER PORTIONS OF THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND WESTERN GREAT
LAKES..
THE
NATIONAL SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER IN KANSAS CITY MISSOURI IS
FORECASTING AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND TORNADOES THIS
AFTERNOON AND EARLY TONIGHT ACROSS EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE UPPER
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES.
THE STATES
WHICH ARE MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THE BRUNT OF THE SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY INCLUDE:
ALL OF WISCONSIN PARTS OF
EASTERN MINNESOTA UPPER MICHIGAN AND THE NORTHWEST PORTION OF
LOWER MICHIGAN PARTS OF NORTHEAST IOWA.
AN UNSEASONABLY
STRONG STORM SYSTEM WILL BE DEVELOPING ACROSS THE NORTHCENTRAL U.S.
TODAY MOVING INTO THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES TONIGHT. A DEEPENING
SURFACE LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE ACROSS NORTH MINNESOTA THIS
AFTERNOON. STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS AHEAD OF THE LOW AND ITS
ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL BRING VERY WARM MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR
INTO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY SETTING THE STAGE FOR AN
OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND TORNADOES. THE COMBINATION OF
THIS VERY POTENT AIRMASS...DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND A JET
STREAM IN EXCESS OF 100MPH WILL PROVIDE THE INGREDIENTS FOR THE
RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE AFTERNOON.
ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING THIS MORNING OVER EASTERN
NORTH DAKOTA WILL QUICKLY SPREAD ACROSS THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY
DURING THE AFTERNOON. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING DAMAGING
WINDS...LARGE HAIL AND POSSIBLE TORNADOES WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD
LATER THIS AFTERNOON ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE SURFACE LOW AND COLD
FRONT ACROSS EASTERN MINNESOTA INTO WISCONSIN AND WESTERN PORTIONS
OF MICHIGAN BY THIS EVENING. THE LOW IS FORECASTED TO CONTINUE TO
RAPIDLY DEEPEN OVERNIGHT AS IT MOVES EASTWARD ACROSS LAKE SUPERIOR
CONTINUING THE THREAT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EAST AND SOUTHEAST
WELL AFTER DARK ACROSS MUCH OF THE GREAT LAKE STATES INTO THE
NORTHERN OHIO VALLEY. THE HIGHEST THREAT FOR TORNADOES AND VERY
DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING INTO THE
WESTERN GREAT LAKES.
ALL PERSONS IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE
URGED TO REVIEW SAFETY RULES...AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO..TV..OR NOAA
WEATHER RADIO FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WATCHES OR WARNINGS.
THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WEATHER SITUATION FOR THE AFFECTED
AREAS AND SHOULD BE MONITORED CLOSELY.
