THE NATIONAL SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER IN KANSAS CITY MISSOURI IS FORECASTING AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND TORNADOES THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY TONIGHT ACROSS EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES.

THE STATES WHICH ARE MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THE BRUNT OF THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY INCLUDE:

ALL OF WISCONSIN
PARTS OF EASTERN MINNESOTA
UPPER MICHIGAN AND THE NORTHWEST PORTION OF LOWER MICHIGAN
PARTS OF NORTHEAST IOWA.

AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG STORM SYSTEM WILL BE DEVELOPING ACROSS THE NORTHCENTRAL U.S. TODAY MOVING INTO THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES TONIGHT. A DEEPENING SURFACE LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE ACROSS NORTH MINNESOTA THIS AFTERNOON. STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS AHEAD OF THE LOW AND ITS ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL BRING VERY WARM MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR INTO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY SETTING THE STAGE FOR AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND TORNADOES. THE COMBINATION OF THIS VERY POTENT AIRMASS...DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND A JET STREAM IN EXCESS OF 100MPH WILL PROVIDE THE INGREDIENTS FOR THE RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE AFTERNOON. ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING THIS MORNING OVER EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA WILL QUICKLY SPREAD ACROSS THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY DURING THE AFTERNOON. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL AND POSSIBLE TORNADOES WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD LATER THIS AFTERNOON ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE SURFACE LOW AND COLD FRONT ACROSS EASTERN MINNESOTA INTO WISCONSIN AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF MICHIGAN BY THIS EVENING. THE LOW IS FORECASTED TO CONTINUE TO RAPIDLY DEEPEN OVERNIGHT AS IT MOVES EASTWARD ACROSS LAKE SUPERIOR CONTINUING THE THREAT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EAST AND SOUTHEAST WELL AFTER DARK ACROSS MUCH OF THE GREAT LAKE STATES INTO THE NORTHERN OHIO VALLEY. THE HIGHEST THREAT FOR TORNADOES AND VERY DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING INTO THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES.

ALL PERSONS IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SAFETY RULES...AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO..TV..OR NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WATCHES OR WARNINGS. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WEATHER SITUATION FOR THE AFFECTED AREAS AND SHOULD BE
MONITORED CLOSELY.
